What is the Adult Learner Course?
All Approved trainers need to have an adult learner course on record at the Registry. This course must be at least 5 hours in length and focus on adult learning theory and methods. This course requirement can be met in a variety of ways. Adult learner courses acceptable from higher education transcripts include Supervising Student Teachers, Adult Education and the Mentor course among others. ‘Train-the-trainer’ courses such as ‘Meeting the Mark of Quality’ and ‘How to Design and Teach a Successful Workshop’ also meet the requirement.

Those that teach courses in institutions of Higher Education do not need to have an adult learner course identified on a transcript. A copy of certificate of teaching from the university will serve as documentation of the adult learner course equivalent.

An Adult Learner course has been created for those who do not have specific training on teaching adults. adult education requirement. This 6 hour/ 8 hour CE class will fulfill this requirement. Students will received 6 hours of in person training which will cover all areas of teaching and training the adult learner. Each student must then complete a take home assignment to be completed within 30 days of the date of the class in order to complete the class. This training is a Tier 3 approved training.

For information on other scheduled trainings, you can call any of the agencies listed on the current schedule or your local resource and referral agency. Additional agencies will be trained to offer the course by June 1, 2008.If you are unsure if you have an Adult Learner course on record, contact the Registry.

What will be accepted as proof of training experience?

You may verify training experience in a variety of ways. You can send in a resume that lists the trainings you have provided including the title of the training, dates, hours and location, submit copies of flyer/conference brochure listings, or simply a list that includes the title of the training, dates, hours and location. What is a Specialist?
Specialists are those outside of the early childhood field (Doctor, lawyer, etc.) or in the early childhood field but not from Wisconsin. Sponsoring agencies will enter the training and be responsible for verifying the qualifications of the specialist to teach and determine what tier level is appropriate for the specialist’s training. Licensing guidelines for continuing education are just as they have always been and the Registry will add all hours that meet the guidelines to each applicant records. These hours will not be assigned a core knowledge area or CDA content area but they will recognized.

Training

Registered Training
Registered Training works much the way the barcoded training of the past worked. Registered training is not approved or assigned a tier. Registered training is reviewed for to assure it meet state licensing guidelines for continuing education based largely on the title of the training. Registered training is assigned a core knowledge area and is itemized on each Registry member’s learning record.

You can print the Registered training verification certificate and distribute it to those attending each session after the session is finished. This method works just as the barcode labels have in the past. If you choose this method, you will be able to print a certificate for each workshop entered. The certificate is one in which there is a top half and a bottom half. Each halve has training details. The bottom half contains the barcode and number. We ask the recipient of training to keep the top half for their records and submit the bottom to the Registry with an application. We leave it to the agency to decide if they want to print just one certificate per sheet of paper or as many certificates as you are comfortable per sheet. You also have the option of copying the barcode and the number from the certificate on the web and copying it onto any document of your choice – including a label format if you wish.

Tiered Training
All tiered training is approved by the Registry and provided by a Registry Approved trainer. You may also use a Specialist where the agency still gets the training approved but verifies the qualifications of the specialist.

The attendance roster for tiered training is entered by the trainer or sponsoring organization on the website. We provide an attendance form on the website for you to download. This form requests all the information necessary to obtain from the student in order to enter each participant into the Registry system. All attendance must be entered within one week of the training. The agency can take the responsibility to enter the attendance or have each approved trainer enter the training. If the approved trainer is entering the attendance, the agency needs to give them the login and password. We advise that the agency change their password after one week to avoid any security risk.

Will Tier 3 be Pass/Fail?
Yes. Tier 3 is pass/fail and there is potential of someone not passing.

How are Conferences handled?
There is really no “one-size-fits-all” method for verifying attendance at any one conference workshop. Therefore, we leave it to each conference sponsor to determine the best approach to use for each workshop – registered, tiered, or even credit based.

The steps for conferences are as follows:
1. Register as a Sponsor of training.
2. Contact us via email or phone to tell us the name of your conference. We will enter the conference title and create a link on our web site menu.
3. You then enter your workshops. They can be any combination of Registered training (barcoded), Tiered training (approved) or Credit based training. It is up to the conference planner to decide what format each workshop will be.
4. The attendance verification procedure depends on what type of workshop you are offering. Those taking Registered training are issued a training attendance certificate verified when the certificate is sent to the Registry with an application. Although you will see the option to print a document of attendance for Tiered training, attendance is verified when the workshop roster is entered by the agency or the trainer. We offer this document of attendance just for the student’s own record. Credit based training is verified when the workshop participant submits a transcript to the Registry.

Continuing Education
Informal training that meets the guidelines as defined by the Department of Children and Families will continue to be accepted toward the continuing education requirement as it always has. The Registry adds training hours to the applicant’s record from the continuing education form or certificates, but this type of training does not have a core knowledge area assigned and is listed only as a combined total
